Precision Sustainable Agriculture: New Technologies for On-farm Decision Making
Managing cropping systems to optimize production inputs, outputs, and environmental impacts requires a deep understanding of how crops respond to weather, pests, soil characteristics, and many other factors at a given location. The Precision Sustainable Agriculture (PSA) network is a national team of agricultural experts, social scientists, engineers, and data scientists developing tools to connect farmers with site-specific knowledge through technology and people to enable science-based, real-time decision making and long-term planning. This presentation will provide an overview of these tools and discuss near-term opportunities for their use on the farm.
Speaker
Eugene Law
Dr. Law is a NIFA Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Plant and Soil Science at the University of Delaware, where he coordinates research on precision integrated weed management systems as a member of the PSA and GROW research networks. His multidisciplinary research experience includes working in the fields of agronomy, environmental and soil sciences, engineering, economics, and data science. His goal is to harness the unprecedented amount of information being gathered on farms across the US to better understand and manage the complex agroecosystem functions that underpin agronomic productivity and sustainability.
